The Collodel Ice Cream journey began when Oreste Collodel immigrated to Western Australia after selling his homemade ice cream business in Rheinberg (West Germany) 27 years ago.
Collodel Ice Cream in Perth originally featured as a mobile ice cream service. Oreste and Mary Collodel’s first store was established on the trendy Rokeby Rd strip in Subiaco during the 1990’s before occupying the iconic retail shopfront on 30 Haynes St Kalamunda in November 2003. Throughout their journey, they continued to showcase their produce by making regular appearances at a variety of events and markets that include Spring in the Valley, Harvest Festival, Kalamunda Artisan Markets and the Kalamunda Night Markets.
The ice creams and sorbets are made fresh in Kalamunda using a traditional artisan method originating from the Dolomite region of Northern Italy. This entails using an old-fashioned manual batch freezer (ice cream churner) that is more labour intensive and time consuming than the automated process, however produces a superior quality ice cream with more character.
The products and flavours used to make our ice creams are all imported from Italy, Netherlands, France and Madagascar (vanilla bean) as they are of premium quality.
Sorbets are dairy free and are made with 100% fruit. All our stone fruits and lemons are sourced from local orchards in the Perth Hills and mangos are from northern Western Australia.
After a tremendously successful 16 years of ice cream service to Kalamunda and its surrounds, Mary and Oreste officially closed the doors to Collodel Ice Cream in 2019 to embark on their well-deserved retirement journey.
Back by popular demand, Collodel Ice Cream has now re-invented its service from a retail shopfront to an online delivery service.
This is where we came in and helped launch the business online. The team were happy to report sales started coming in on the first day of launching!
